Thanks to the signing of Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United, Rafael Benitez and Newcastle United supporters are likely to feel satisfied with how last month’s transfer window went or at least more satisfied compared to how they would have felt at the beginning of it.
Not everyone at St. James’ Park, however, would have felt the same way with midfielder Isaac Hayden having been desperate to leave the club.
The Breakdown
Hayden had been keen to move to a team closer to Wales where his daughter and his mother reside, reports the Chronicle Live.
But with Newcastle unable to secure a replacement, the 23-year-old was made to stay on Tyneside and has since come out to speak about this difficult period in his career.
“I’ve not really known whether I was going to be staying here for the second part of the season or whether I was going to be going,” Hayden told Newcastle’s official club website (via Chronicle Live).
“But – as I’ve said – as soon as you cross that white line, everything else doesn’t matter. You’ve got a job to do, and you always want to try and do your best, and show what you’re capable of doing.”
Despite the uncertainty that surrounded his future, Hayden has done just that, showing his worth to Benitez and the team.
In midfield, the former Arsenal man has added some real steel and, ultimately, has proven to be a useful player to have during a time where his manager cannot go and fork out tonnes of money on new additions.
Considering all of that, Benitez and Newcastle must do all they can to retain Hayden’s services beyond this season.
