After Aston Villa lost last season’s Championship play-off final 1-0 to Fulham the club were plunged into huge financial difficulty having banked on receiving the riches from the Premier League.
At one point during the summer Villa faced a winding up order from HMRC and needed to raise £40m to meet Financial Fair Play regulations, meaning that star man Jack Grealish was touted for sale.
Thankfully for Villa fans, billionaires Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris bought a controlling stake in the club from Dr Tony Xia and started spending money. Grealish remained at Villa Park and boss Steve Bruce bought midfielder John McGinn and goalkeeper Orjan Nyland on permanent deals.
Bruce also delved into the loan market to sign Axel Tuanzebe from Manchester United and Andre Moreira from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid before the initial deadline day on August 9. With Championship clubs still able to make loan signings until August 31 though, Bruce brought in wingers Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie.
Perhaps the most impressive signing though was Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, who joined on a season-long loan after spending last season in the Premier League with Swansea. The England international was certainly a coup for Bruce and Villa fans will be excited to see the 6ft 3in striker make his debut.
So, Villa fans, who do you think is the best signing the club made this summer? Have your say by voting in our poll below.
