As reported by The Daily Express, Everton are set to reach a compromise with Swansea City for the signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson.
What’s the story?
The Sigurdsson saga has rumbled on all summer but it appears that the Toffees could have finally made a breakthrough in their pursuit of the Icelandic international.
The Express report that despite their £50m price tag, Swansea are set to reach a compromise on Everton’s latest offer for the attacking midfielder, which was £40m plus £5m add-ons.
The paper say the Swans will agree to the deal on their return from a pre-season tour, paving the way for Everton to agree a £90,000-a-week contract with the 27-year-old.
Koeman’s faith
With nine goals and 13 assists in the English Premier League last season, Sigurdsson has been one of the stand-outs across the entire division, despite playing for a club who were mired in a relegation battle for most of the campaign.
He was a one man band at the Swans at times last season and arguably deserves to be surrounded by more talented players. At 27 years old he is entering the prime of his career and has definitely improved as a top-flight star since leaving Tottenham Hotspur.
Koeman needs depth and quality at the club next season if he is to have his side truly compete in the top-flight and Sigurdsson adds both to attacking midfield areas.
It’s clear this is a player the Dutchman wants badly given Everton’s pursuit of him all summer and when a manager lands his prime targets, it’s usually only a positive.
With that kind of confidence behind him then Sigurdsson is well-placed to be a star at Goodison Park and justify his hefty reported price tag.
