Leeds’ preparations for the new season took two blows in quick succession on Friday.
Firstly, it was revealed that Kemar Roofe had fielded interest from Anderlecht before 19-year-old Jordan Stevens received an FA charge for a breach of betting rules.
It’s two events that rather sums up the state of affairs at Leeds at the moment as Kalvin Phillips was the subject of a £15m bid from Aston Villa on the same day, too.
A statement from the Whites on their website read: “Jordan has been fully cooperative with the club and the authorities since the incident was brought to our attention and we can confirm that he will accept the charge.”
It was an announcement that will come as severely bad news for Stevens with the campaign getting underway at the weekend.
Reaction from Leeds fans on Twitter was sporadic as some decided to joke about the situation. One claimed the club had sold his phone, making reference to player sales, whilst another suggested it was a way to raise money for financial fair play.
However, others were far more vocal about the situation. One called the teenager a silly boy as a further supporter said it was stupidity.
The midfielder has only ever appeared once for the Leeds senior team but has gained experienced playing for Forest Green in League Two.
Here’s some of the reaction.
