Play was halted late in the first half as the chants aimed at the Madrid centre-back continued, resulting in a message being shown on the screens inside the Reale Arena. The statement read: "No to racist, xenophobic and intolerant chants. Encourage and support the team while respecting the rival."

Asencio was shown a yellow card towards the end of the first half and was then substituted at half-time as Madrid went on to win 1-0 in the semi-final first leg thanks to an early Endrick goal. Asencio, 22, is one of several Madrid academy players under investigation over an alleged child sex abuse video scandal.
