Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen insists that stopping Bruno Fernandes is the key to stopping Manchester United.

Speaking on talkSPORT, former United coach Meulensteen claimed that Fernandes is the key man for Ruben Amorim's side. Meulensteen believes that if teams can stop Fernandes from dictating play, the club's on-field threat is significantly reduced.

The 30-year-old has been remarkable since his arrival at the club from Sporting CP in 2020 and he has scored 95 goals and registered 83 assists in 279 games for the Red Devils. It is little surprise, then, that Meulensteen has identified him as United's principal threat.

Meulensteen said: "If any team looks at Manchester United, just stop Bruno getting on the ball. That's it, you stop Manchester United. He is the one that creates everything. He's the one who's got the extra quality to hit this inch-perfect pass to to launch [Alejandro] Garnacho or any of the other players."
