Wolves are set to table a new lucrative deal for star winger Adama Traore in order to keep him at Molineux for the upcoming seasons. According to Football Insider, the Spaniard has agreed terms in principle for a new contract worth £21million. This will see his weekly wages doubled, reportedly jumping from £50,000 to £100,000.
A lot of speculation has surrounded Traore’s position at the Midlands club, with many others monitoring his situation carefully. A recent report from Marca tipped Barcelona to be interested in his services, rivalling Liverpool and Manchester City who are also said to be keen.
A huge statement from Wolves
Wolves boast a very exciting attack with the likes of Raul Jimenez and Pedro Neto in their ranks. They are also lucky enough to have Traore on their bench to unleash as their secret weapon. Tying him down for another four years is extremely smart business from Nuno Espirito Santo, Jeff Shi and co, who clearly see him as part of the club’s future.
In 37 Premier League appearances last season, the 24-year-old bagged himself four goals and nine assists. Traore’s impact in front of goal was the difference between a draw and a win, or a loss and a draw on six different occasions (via Transfermarkt).
His influence on the righthand side is undeniably game-changing. When Wolves narrowly missed out on a result to Liverpool last campaign, Jurgen Klopp heaped praised on Traore, branding him as “unplayable in moments”. Indeed, the Spain international was last season’s second fastest player, registering a sprint speed of 23.48mph against Chelsea. He ranked only behind Kyle Walker, who was 0.01mph faster than him (via Planet Football).
His intense speed combined with his strong physique makes him a defender’s nightmare. But he doesn’t just dominate the right-wing. Nuno has often called upon Traore to operate at right-back, which is something he has already done once this season. Traore has played four different positions in his five league appearances so far this term, boasting outstanding versatility. There’s no question behind why Wolves have given him a huge pay rise in order to tie him down.
In other news, Niall Ennis could get experience he needs as potential Jimenez successor…
