Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Adama Traore is not in any ‘active contract talks’ to extend his stay at Molineux, according to journalist Steve Madeley.
The Lowdown: Uncertain future
The Old Gold playmaker’s deal is set to expire at the end of the season and he is facing an uncertain future having not committed to penning fresh terms in the Premier League.
The Spaniard is reportedly expected to look for a move elsewhere this summer, with one potential suitor’s name having already emerged into the frame.
In February, Napoli were claimed to be close to agreeing a deal to sign the 27-year-old ahead of the new term, and an update on his stance has now come to light.
The Latest: Madeley’s update
Taking to Twitter, Madeley revealed that Traore isn’t currently holding negotiations with Wolves over a new deal but hinted that he is in a positive mindset about the future. He wrote:
“Happier after management change. No active contract talks. Could restart in summer. Previous lucrative offer unlikely to stand. Player wants assurances about a key role.”
The Verdict: New contract deserved?
Traore has been dubbed a ‘beast’ by talent scout Jacek Kulig and Wolves offering him improved terms would be nothing less than he deserves.
The Midlands winger has racked up 33 goal contributions during his time at the club and currently ranks in the 99th percentile for successful take-ons by wingers in Europe’s top leagues.
Wanderers’ speed demon is also a hugely valuable player for Julen Lopetegui to have in the squad having operated in seven various positions throughout the course of his career.
Traore is certainly a fan favourite at Molineux and Wolves should take the opportunity to tie him down before clubs seriously start sniffing about in a bid to prise him away this summer.
